I just walked 23 miles in several hours for no real reason at all. I did so without stopping for a break — not even to use a toilet. I simply got into a rhythm that fed upon itself, I suppose.
I Just Walked 23 Miles.
Readers of The Gate With Brian Cohen know that I have a penchant for walking. I walked from the airport to the hotel property at where I was:
- Staying in Lisbon in Portugal
- To attend a meeting in Las Vegas — and I gave instructions on how to do so
I have also walked:
- Around Helsinki in Finland on a snowy but not so cold morning
- On the fortress walls of Intramuros in Manila in the Philippines
- Along the Walk of Death: Langistígur in Þingvellir National Park in Iceland
- Around Vilnius in Lithuania one morning when I arrived hours before I was permitted to check in to the hotel property at where I was staying
- From the train station to the central part of Sofia in Bulgaria — and then I walked around the city all day before walking back to the train station
- From the DoubleTree by Hilton Luxembourg hotel property to the central area of the city of Luxembourg
- Through another state to get from the airport to the downtown area of a city in the United States
- Across a pedestrian bridge between two states
- 21 kilometers round trip in several hours on the Berg Lake trail near Mount Robson in British Columbia in Canada — and that was not even a level walk
The above list is by no means anywhere close to complete.
I even had both of the soles of a pair of running shoes fail on me while I was walking — as well as what happened afterwards.
Final Boarding Call
Countless more examples exist of just how much I walk whenever I travel.
Sure, walking usually consumes more time than other modes of transportation — but I actually enjoy it; and I can easily walk ten miles at a time without even thinking about it…
…and for as long as I can travel, I hope that my legs remain strong.
Take this opportunity to go for a refreshingly invigorating walk. Take your portable electronic device with you but do not use it unless in the event of an emergency situation. Appreciate nature wherever you are located. Breathe in that fresh air. The exercise will be good for you, and you will have a chance to clear your head of whatever may be on your mind.
