In Memoriam: BrightlyBob

“Add me to the list of first stay receiving the bonus but subsequent not… I seem to remember this happened a couple of years ago too. Contacted IHG and advised to wait the 4-6 weeks…”

In Memoriam: BrightlyBob

What you just read was what FlyerTalk member BrightlyBob posted in the InterContinental Hotels | IHG Rewards Club and Intercontinental Ambassador forum on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at 2:23 in the morning Eastern Daylight Time pertaining to the 4X Faster promotion — and that became the last time he posted on FlyerTalk.

Although BrightlyBob passed away sometime in September of 2020 — the exact date is not yet known, nor has he been identified publicly with his real name — Lori Anne Dempsey Fleenor of the Marriott Bonvoy Insiders official Internet web site on Facebook had announced the sad news on Tuesday, September 22, 2020:

“It is with profound sadness that I carry the news to this group that our very own, the one, the only, the venerable BrightlyBob has lost his battle with Covid. Bob was a tremendous beacon of enlightenment, merriment, humor as well as helpful to other Marriott Bonvoy Insiders and a consummate strategist when it came to maximizing Bonvoy points as well as airline miles. It is to Bob that we credit the moniker TIPPLE to the two Marriott Insiders Get-Togethers that have been organized and successfully executed over the past few years. A third was scheduled for this weekend in Seattle actually, but cancelled due to Covid.”

Having first joined FlyerTalk as a member on Friday, January 2, 2009, BrightlyBob was considered to be a knowledgeable and upbeat influence and known for his extraordinary commitment, as he posted content a total of 1,457 times and participated most notably in the Marriott | Marriott Bonvoy forum. His last activity on FlyerTalk was on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 9:43 in the morning Eastern Daylight Time.

Summary

I did not know BrightlyBob personally nor do I recall having ever met him or have communicated with him on FlyerTalk — but regardless, the loss of a FlyerTalk member is still sad for me. I really dislike having to mourn yet another fellow frequent flier — no matter when he or she passed away.

Any other information pertaining to BrightlyBob — such as an Internet web site pertaining to remembering details about his life — had been unavailable to me at the time this article was written. I intend to edit and amend this article if any new information becomes available so that he may be properly remembered with a more fitting tribute.

In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of BrightlyBob. May he rest in peace…
