Is There Something Wrong With This Photograph From Avis?

As I was researching an offer for rental cars about which to write an article, I happened to check the Internet web site through which Avis Rent A Car System offers promotions within the United States; and I spotted an offer with which you may be familiar.

Is There Something Wrong With This Photograph From Avis?

Through this particular ongoing offer, you can rent a car one way from the airport to wherever you want to go — 150 free miles and a free tank of gasoline are included in the deal — starting at $9.99 for up to 12 hours, which is one dollar more than was originally offered back on Monday, November 6, 2017, as highlighted in this article which I wrote

…but then I looked at the photograph which accompanied the offer. Do you notice anything wrong with it?

Summary

I enjoy when readers of The Gate come up with creative answers to questions such as what is wrong with a photograph. For example, the comments in response to this article pertaining to an extra long fish sandwich which is no longer offered by Burger King had me laughing.

Maybe I am just imagining things, so please excuse me if I am the only one who thinks that there is something noticeably wrong with the photograph used for this promotion — but I am curious as to whether anyone else sees something similar…

  1. Since both planes have their gear down, it appears that one is landing and the other taking off. Typically planes take off and land in the same direction, into the wind….not in opposite directions.

Do I win a free first class trip somewhere? LOL

  2. They seem very close, as though coming from and heading to the same runway. I also wonder why both have gear down, most flights would have raised gear after takeoff.

  3. Since when can I rent an airport from Avis? And for only $9.99? Sounds like a deal.
The planes…however, definitely photoshopped. Look at the sun’s lighting…and shadows.

  4. Maybe it’s just the angle, but the aircraft flying out of the photo (towards the reader) appears to be missing it’s vertical and horizontal stabilizers to me…

  5. Shadow on the plane on the right is wrong. Sun is behind the plane, so cockpit should be in a shadow, however in thispicture cockpit is fully light like there is another source of the light. (Same issue can be found in one of moon landing pictures:)

    1. At first, I saw the two airplanes heading too close to each other on what appears to be a similar altitude in the air — which would not occur at most commercial airports due to safety reasons, Matt B — but then I saw that the airplane on the right was clearly not part of the original photograph because of the way the light is shining the front side of it even though the sun is behind it.

Even more incredulous to me that someone actually created this photographic illustration is that someone actually approved it and paid for it…
