Sometimes you need an infusion of miles or points to your membership account for whatever reason — perhaps to have enough to redeem for a limited time award as one example — and the best time to purchase or gift miles or points is when they are on sale.
Miles and Points On Sale — March 2023
A sale may be a discount on the price required to purchase miles or points — or perhaps the frequent travel loyalty program from whom you are buying the miles or points will match your purchase up to 150 percent, which is another way of reducing the cost of miles or points.
Offers to purchase miles and points are not usually highlighted in their own articles here at The Gate. Rather, they are compiled in this article — typically whenever a new sale is announced or an old sale expires — so that you can shop for miles and points from different frequent travel loyalty programs conveniently in one spot and compare the sales to what you want or need.
Note that you may get a different offer from some of the frequent travel loyalty programs than what are posted in this article — especially when the offer is touted as a “mystery bonus” or some other vague term.
The frequent travel loyalty programs which are featured in this latest edition of miles and points on sale are:
- World of Hyatt
- IHG One Rewards

World of Hyatt: 25 Percent Bonus
Until the end of the day, Saturday, March 25, 2023, you can enjoy a bonus of 25 percent on the purchase of a minimum of 5,000 World of Hyatt points — that is, spend a maximum of $1,320.00 to receive a total of 68,750 World of Hyatt points instead of a total of 55,000 World of Hyatt points.
IHG One Rewards: 100 Percent Bonus Points
You have until the end of the day on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 to take advantage of receiving a bonus of 100 percent on IHG One Rewards points with a minimum purchase of 5,000 IHG One Rewards base points and up to a maximum limit of 150,000 IHG Rewards base points for $1,500.00 — not including the bonus points.
Marriott Bonvoy: 40 Percent Bonus
You can buy or gift a minimum of 2,000 Marriott Bonvoy points — up to a maximum total of 100,000 points — and get a bonus of 40 percent through Monday, April 3, 2023. Moreover, members may purchase an additional 100,000 points annually while booking a stay at a hotel or resort property through the reservation path on Marriott.com.
Air Canada Aeroplan: Up to 80 Percent Bonus Points or Up to 45 Percent Discount
Until the end of the day on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 — you can purchase or gift a minimum of 4,000 Aeroplan points and receive a bonus or up to 80 percent or a discount of up to 30 percent as follows:
- Buy 4,000 to 29,000 Aeroplan points = 30 percent discount or 45 percent bonus
- Buy 30,000 to 59,000 Aeroplan points = 40 percent discount or 65 percent bonus
- Buy a minimum of 60,000 Aeroplan points = 45 percent discount or 80 percent bonus
American Airlines AAdvantage: Up to 35 Percent Discount
You can purchase or gift up to a maximum of 150,000 AAdvantage miles in order to receive a discount of up to 35 percent — for a cost of $3,668.44 for 150,000 miles — through the end of the day on Friday, March 31, 2023 as follows:
- Buy or gift 5,000 to 54,000 AAdvantage miles = 20 percent discount
- Buy or gift 55,000 to 149,000 AAdvantage miles = 25 percent discount
- Buy or gift 150,000 AAdvantage miles = 35 percent discount
Frontier Airlines Frontier Miles: 75 Percent Bonus
Until Monday, April 4, 2023, you can purchase or gift up to a maximum of 30,000 Frontier Miles and receive a bonus of up to 40 percent.
United Airlines MileagePlus: Up to 50 Percent Discount
Until the end of the day on Sunday, March 19, 2023, you can purchase or gift up to a maximum of 175,000 miles and receive a discount of up to 50 percent as follows:
- Buy 3,000 to 19,000 MileagePlus miles = 20 percent discount
- Buy 20,000 to 59,000 MileagePlus miles = 35 percent discount
- Buy 60,000 to 175,000 MileagePlus miles = 50 percent discount
Virgin Atlantic Airways Flying Club: Up to 70 Percent Bonus Miles
You can receive a bonus of up to 70 percent on Flying Club miles through Friday, March 31, 2023 at midnight Greenwich Mean Time when you purchase a minimum of 5,000 Virgin Atlantic Airways Flying Club miles as follows:
- Buy 5,000 to 24,000 Flying Club miles = 20 percent bonus Flying Club miles
- Buy 25,000 to 69,000 Flying Club miles = 30 percent bonus Flying Club miles
- Buy 70,000 to 124,000 Flying Club miles = 50 percent bonus Flying Club miles
- Buy 125,000 to 200,000 Flying Club miles = 70 percent bonus Flying Club miles

Remember that each frequent travel loyalty program has partners through which you can redeem miles or points; so you are not confined just to the product offered by an airline or lodging company.
Also be sure to read the terms and conditions of each other. Typically, all sales are final: once you have purchased your miles or points through these sales, you cannot return your points; and your money cannot be refunded.
I have purchased miles and points on rare occasions — and if you need to do so from the aforementioned frequent travel loyalty programs, now is the right time.
