When one is enveloped by an abundance of extraordinary natural beauty in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, overlooking sites which would otherwise be worthy of a visit in many other places is not uncommon…
Overlander Falls is Good For a Quick Tranquil Break
…so after staying overnight at Mount Robson Lodge and hiking 21 kilometers round trip on Berg Lake Trail — a trip report is forthcoming — I stopped at Overlander Falls.
The round trip between your parked vehicle and the view of the falls is only 45 minutes.
The trail is a rocky dirt path which descends towards the falls…
…and although navigating the path is easy for most people, a couple of spots along the way may prove to be somewhat challenging to visitors who are disabled or are otherwise not in reasonably healthy shape due to a slightly steeper grade and rough patches.
The path is surrounded by woods; so there are no scenic views along the way — but the natural greenery lends to the quiet and serene ambiance.
Named for the Overlanders expedition of 1862, Overlander Falls is located on the Fraser River in Mount Robson Provincial Park in British Columbia.
If you prefer, a longer trail is available and follows Fraser River towards views of the canyon and historic Hogan’s Cabin which the short trail does not offer.
The Fraser River meanders downstream.
Summary
Overlander Falls is located on the south side of Trans-Canada Highway 16 — which is also known as Yellowhead Highway — in Mount Robson Provincial Park near Mount Robson in British Columbia.
Because it is located in a provincial park and not a national park, admission is free of charge at all times. No facilities of any type are available. You can stay as long as you like or for as little as ten minutes…
…and because Overlander Falls is overshadowed by the spectacular Mount Robson — views of which I enjoyed when I stayed at Mount Robson Lodge — I did not see any other visitors there. If you are tired of dealing with crowds, Overlander Falls seems to be one of the ideal spots where you can temporarily enjoy a nice quiet respite.
