Also known as Tarāpunga, red-billed gulls are the most common gulls in New Zealand.
Except for a colony at Lake Rotorua, this species of birds rarely is found inland in New Zealand.
Red-billed gulls have a cameo appearance in this video of Kaikaitāhuna Bay.
Final Boarding Call
Seeing gulls at a lake instead of the sea informed me that these birds were not seagulls. In fact, no species of bird or animal is officially called a seagull.
