“What side of the hotel sink do you stage your toiletries? Left, right, both, or ‘at home’?” was the question asked by Gizmosdad — who is a reader of The Gate — in response to this article in which I asked which bed you choose if you are a solo traveler in a hotel room with two beds.
What Side of the Sink in a Hotel Room Do You Stage Your Toiletries?
My initial response to that interesting question — about which I never gave a thought — was “I stage my toiletries on the side of the sink with the most room or with the least chance of getting wet” and that “I have thought about it; but I cannot say that I actually have a preference as to which side — perhaps the left side?!? I suppose how the bathroom is configured also affects my decision…”
Summary
After thinking about it, I then realized that I stage my toiletries on the side of the sink which is farthest away from the toilet. I am not sure why, as I do not recall ever having accidentally dropped any toiletries in a toilet in a hotel bathroom. Most room and least chance of getting wet are still factors, though; so there is no absolutely staunch personal rule which I follow.
Whenever I am at home, my toiletries are kept in a cabinet under the vanity in my bathroom; so that does not apply to stays in hotel rooms.
Thanks to Gizmosdad, I am now curious as to which side of the sink in the bathroom of a hotel room you stage your toiletries — as well as what are your reasons for doing so.
