I have been in cities all over the world — I was even born and raised in the city of New York — but I saw an interesting sight that I personally had never seen before when I was walking along the streets of Barcelona: I saw a person take out a cloth and clean a traffic signal for pedestrians.
Sunday Morning Photograph March 6 2022: Cleaning Traffic Signals in Barcelona.
I could not even tell whether the man worked for the city of Barcelona and was simply doing his job — or if he was some random pedestrian who spontaneously stopped and felt the need to perform cleaning maintenance on the electric traffic signal, as he did not seem to be wearing a uniform of any type.
He spent some time rubbing a cloth of some type all over the bottom “walk” portion of the traffic signal until he apparently felt that it was clean enough to meet his standards.
Well — at least the bright sunshine and mild weather was conducive for him to perform such a public service.
Final Boarding Call
I do not remember the exact spot in Barcelona as to where I witnessed this; but I suspect that it was somewhere along Avinguda Diagonal not far from the Hilton Barcelona at which I stayed — and I do intend to write and post a trip report pertaining to my experience as a guest at the hotel property sometime in the future.
I thought it was a somewhat bizarre sight; but maybe I am wrong, as someone seems to be taking some sort of pride in the city: have you ever seen someone stop to clean a traffic signal?
