Winter weather packs a one-two punch.

If the eastern half of the United States and southeastern Canada are in your travel plans over the next couple of days or so, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the latest winter weather systems which are forecast to bring significant amounts of snow to these regions.

Travel Alert January 2023: Powerful Winter Storms Affecting Eastern United States and Southeastern Canada

The following statement is currently posted at the official Internet web site of the National Weather Service of the United States:

Powerful Winter Storm Moving through the Southern and Eastern U.S

A powerful winter storm will cross the southern U.S. today then shift into the Northeastern U.S. by Wednesday night. Heavy snow and pockets of ice are forecast along and north of the storm’s track where winter weather watches, warnings, and advisories have been issued. In the South, heavy to possibly excessive rain may cause flooding, and severe thunderstorms may bring strong tornadoes.

The map of the United States from the National Weather Service indicates that winter storm warnings, winter weather advisories, winter storm watches, and wind advisories have been issued in southeastern New Mexico all the way to the border which Maine shares with New Brunswick.

Although snow is expected to fall from western Arizona and central Utah all the way to Newfoundland and Labrador, the accumulation of up to 24 inches of snow is possible from northern New Hampshire to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Meanwhile, much of the southeastern United States could receive thunderstorms with significant precipitation and high winds, which affect travel accordingly. Tornados have already caused damage in Houston and other parts of Texas; and that severe weather is forecast to head east into extreme southwestern Georgia.
