Winter Storm Affects Northeastern United States: February 2023 Travel Alert

Active Weather Pattern Continues This Week
Powerful storm system will affect the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Northeast through today. Severe weather threat across the Ohio Valley and heavy snow for the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and into the Northeast. Strong winds and dry weather raise fire weather risks across the Central-Southern Plains. For the west coast and southern Alaska, cold temperatures, gusty winds and heavy snow expected.
The map of the United States from the National Weather Service indicates that winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been issued from central eastern Minnesota to southeastern Maine.
Accumulation of up to as much as seven inches of snow is expected in the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. In some places — such as the city of New York as one example — measurable accumulations of snow have been rare this winter, as New York could be blanketed with up to three inches of snow. Travel will be affected accordingly.
Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations
If you are traveling to, from, or within the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada over the next couple of days or so, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this winter weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.
If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary.

- American Airlines has issued travel alerts for 40 airports in 14 states and two provinces for Sunday, February 26, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023; and Sunday, March 5, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Delta Air Lines has issued travel alerts for 27 airports in nine states for Monday, February 27, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023; and Friday, March 3, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- United Airlines has issued travel alerts for 38 airports in Toronto and 14 states for Monday, February 27, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023; and Saturday, March 4, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Southwest Airlines has issued travel alerts for 15 airports in nine states for Monday, February 27, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023; and Tuesday, March 14, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- JetBlue Airways has issued travel alerts for 13 airports in seven states for Monday, February 27, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023; and Friday, March 3, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Frontier Airlines has issued travel alerts for Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Green Bay for Monday, February 27, 2023.
- Spirit Airlines has issued travel alerts for six airports in five states for Monday, February 27, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023; and Saturday, March 4, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Air Canada has issued travel alerts for:
- Prince Rupert for Monday, February 27, 2023.
- New York, Newark, and both airports which serve Toronto for Monday, February 27, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
- Montréal, Ottawa, and Québec for Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
- WestJet Airways has issued travel alerts for Montréal and five airports in Ontario for Monday, February 27, 2023 through Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
- Porter Airlines has issued travel alerts for both airports which serve Toronto for Monday, February 27, 2023.
