M iguel Southwell is no longer the general manager of the international airport which serves the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, as he was reportedly fired from his job, according to this article posted moments ago from WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News in Atlanta — and a contributing factor for his departure is that wait times in lines at the security checkpoint increased to greater than one hour at one of the busiest airports in the world, which resulted in harsh criticism that left many travelers complaining of missing their flights.
Long lines — resulting in increased wait times around the United States and including Atlanta — have been blamed on the Transportation Security Administration.
Roosevelt Council will serve as the interim aviation general manager of the airport until a new general manager is named.
“I want to thank Mr. Southwell for his service to the City of Atlanta and the travelers at the world’s busiest passenger airport,” said Kasim Reed — the current mayor of Atlanta — in a statement.
Southwell was named to the position of general manager of the airport in June of 2014 — reportedly at a starting salary of $221,000.00 per year.
Other contributing factors which led to the departure of Southwell — if any — are not publicly known at this time…
