The expiration dates of Free Weekend Night Rewards which are earned annually or accomplished via certain milestones by Hilton Honors American Express card members had been extended at least twice in the past — but if you have any which are expiring soon, you had better use them while you can, as neither Hilton nor American Express will not extend the expiration date yet again…
Better Use Those Free Weekend Night Rewards. Their Expiration Dates Will Not Be Extended Again by Hilton Honors or American Express.
…and you must complete your stay by the expiration date. The Free Night Reward will be forfeited if not redeemed on or before the expiration date.
As a reminder from this article here at The Gate on Wednesday November 23, 2021, details of the extensions of the expiration dates are as follows, as Free Weekend Night Rewards which were issued:
- Through June 30, 2020 have been extended; and will now expire on Friday, July 1, 2022.
- Between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 expire 24 months from date of issuance.
- Between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021 will expire on Saturday, December 31, 2022.
- Between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2022 will expire 12 months from the date of issuance.
This means that the first set of Free Weekend Night Rewards — which had been extended — is set to expire on Friday, July 1, 2022, which is only 15 days from today, Thursday, June 16, 2022. Keep in mind that Free Weekend Night Rewards — including those which were issued in 2022 — can be used any night of the week and not solely on weekends.
To redeem a Free Weekend Night Reward, Card Members should call Hilton Honors Customer Care at 1-800-446-6677.

Free Weekend Night Reward certificates for eligible Hilton Honors American Express Card Members had already been extended on Thursday, May 27, 2021 due to the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic; and their expiration dates had been extended again on Wednesday, November 23, 2021.

The terms and conditions of the Free Night Award are copied verbatim from the official Internet web site of Hilton — and they are as follows:
The Free Night Reward can be redeemed for one standard accommodation, double occupancy, subject to availability at properties in the Hilton portfolio, excluding those listed at HiltonHonors.com/freenightreward.
To redeem the Free Night Reward, members must call 1-800-446-6677 and mention the code provided by Hilton Honors. You must complete your stay by the expiration date. The Free Night Reward will be forfeited if not redeemed on or before the expiration date.
The Free Night Reward is not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash or Hilton Honors Points. The Free Night Reward may be combined with other Hilton or Free Night promotions in market and may be added to an existing paid or Reward stay. The Free Night Reward includes all applicable resort fees and taxes on the cost of the room for the redeemed night. The Card member is responsible for all incidental charges.
The Free Night Reward may be cancelled pursuant to the cancellation policy on the Hilton Honors Program website at hiltonhonors.com.
Free Night Rewards are subject to Hilton Honors Free Night Terms and Conditions.
Final Boarding Call
I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed that neither Hilton nor American Express will extend the expiration dates of the Free Weekend Night Reward certificates yet again — but with the current travel climate contributing to their business to the point where the summer of 2022 may be the best one yet in the history of 103 years of Hilton, no incentive exists for the multinational lodging company to continue to do so other than for good will relations with their customers.
Also, the ability to redeem a Free Weekend Night Reward online instead of having to call a representative of the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program via telephone would be an extremely welcome feature which would be a lot easier and more efficient — but that still does not exist at this time.
Regardless, if you have any Free Night Reward certificates which expire on Friday, July 1, 2022, get on that telephone, call 1-800-446-6677, and redeem them as soon as possible, as availability of standard accommodations has been decreasing this summer due to high demand…
