For many years, the taxi cab industry had a notorious reputation for overcharging customers who wanted transportation between hotel properties and the airport which serves the greater metropolitan area of Las Vegas — until flat taxi cab rates in Las Vegas between airport and hotel were implemented by the Nevada Taxicab Authority on Friday, December 20, 2019.
Flat Taxi Cab Rates in Las Vegas Between Airport and Hotel
Since then — effective as of Monday, August 30, 2021 — a fuel surcharge of one dollar has been added to the prices of each of the three flat taxi cab rate zones.
The three zones and their respective flat taxi cab rates — which include the fuel surcharge of one dollar but do not include gratuities and a fee of three dollars if a credit card is used for payment — are as follows:
- Zone 1 — Sunset Road north to Tropicana Avenue: $20.00
- Zone 2 — Tropicana Avenue north to Flamingo Road: $24.00
- Zone 3 — Flamingo Road north to Stratosphere: $28.00

The price per zone only applies to direct trips with no stops. If a customer requests multiple stops within a zone, the second trip within that zone will be charged as a new trip in accordance with existing meter rates.
Any destination which is located outside of any of the three zones will be charged in accordance with existing meter rates.
Capacity is up to a maximum of five passengers — including infants and children — which are permitted per sedan style taxi cab in Las Vegas.
Final Boarding Call
That fuel surcharge is akin to a resort fee because I do not believe that it will be rescinded anytime soon — if ever. Just increase the flat taxi cab rate by one dollar across the board and be done with it. If the flat taxi cab rate is reduced by one dollar sometime in the future, that would be seen as an unexpected yet welcome reduction.
