When one thinks of Saint Patrick’s Day, the obvious theme is Ireland or anything Irish — so Happy Saint Patrick’s Day 2023: a few things to do when in Ireland plus a sale on airfare between the United States and Ireland which you may want to consider.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day 2023: A Few Things to Do When in Ireland
Links to articles of some of my experiences while I was briefly in Ireland include:
Newgrange — Predating Stonehenge in England by hundreds of years, Newgrange is the best known passage tomb — which is a narrow passage constructed of large stones and one or more burial chambers covered in earth or stone — in Ireland which dates back to approximately the year 3,200 B.C.E.
Knowth — Built greater than 5,000 years ago, the Great Mound at Knowth is similar in size to Newgrange and is surrounded by 18 smaller satellite mounds. The Great Mound has two passages with entrances on opposite sides: the Western tomb has a passage which is 34 meters in length; while the passage of the Eastern tomb is slightly longer, ending with a chamber in the shape of a cross.
Howth — This quaint seaside town is located approximately 16 kilometers east and slightly south of Dublin Airport, from which you can expect to drive up to 20 minutes. Although you will likely not get close views of the airplanes departing from Dublin Airport, you can still sit on a bench and partake in some “planespotting.” You can certainly try your hand at fishing. You might want to even imbibe in a pint or two at the local pub, which I did not do because I do not drink alcoholic beverages.
Dublin — Imbibing in alcoholic beverages is certainly not the only activity to do in the capital city of Ireland, which is also the largest city in the country. Fade Street is one place to go in Dublin when you are in the mood to go out on the town. I stayed at the Hilton Dublin Airport while I was there.
