We were hungry from the odyssey that was our journey on the way back from our expedition in Antarctica; so we decided to stop and get Italian food at a local eatery that was part of a chain of restaurants — and I just happened to notice a bottle of olive oil and stemmed glassware on a nearby table.

The lighting on those glasses reminded me of some of the classic paintings of similar featured items of still life. The photograph could have been further improved if the table was covered with a white tablecloth — and if an advertisement for a promotion was not on the table.

Trivia time: Olive oil may have existed for as many as 2,700 years. Its applications have varied from condiments to salad dressings; from frying food to religious rituals; from cosmetics to medicines to pharmaceuticals; as a fuel in traditional oil lamps; from the manufacture of soaps to skincare application; as an aphrodisiac; and even as an ingredient in a form of birth control as recommended by Aristotle.
