Official highway signs with Speed Limit 80 printed on them are found only in portions of Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. The sign that is featured in this article is located somewhere on Interstate 70 in Utah.

Look closely at the above photograph. The original speed limit on this particular sign was 75 miles per hour. 80 miles per hour is too fast to notice it. How ironic.
Final Boarding Call
Traffic signs which are posted seemingly in the middle of nowhere present another irony to me. Is regulation really necessary in wide open spaces of land? Perhaps.
I photographed a stop sign on an off ramp of Interstate 10 somewhere in western Texas years ago. All one could see is:
- The bright red stop sign
- A vibrant blue sky
- The off ramp
- A vast expanse of land
I have always liked that photograph.
