E ffective as of today, Wednesday, March 15, 2017 — and with little advance notice — the fees for changing or confirming your flight on the same day have increased from $50.00 to $75.00. Tickets purchased and issued prior to today are still subject to the old fee of $50.00.
Same Day Confirmed and Change Fees Increase by 50 Percent on Delta Air Lines
The good news is that if you are a member of the Delta Air Lines SkyMiles frequent flier loyalty program and you have earned Gold Medallion, Platinum Medallion or Diamond Medallion elite level status, the fee is still waived for you.
All other customers are subject to the new $75.00 fee, as standing by for a different flight on the same day just became more expensive for customers who:
- Have earned Silver Medallion elite level status
- Are members of the SkyMiles frequent flier loyalty program but have no Medallion elite level status
- Are not members of the SkyMiles frequent flier loyalty program at all
Summary
Keep in mind that Basic Economy — or E — fares are not eligible for same-day confirmed or same-day standby travel changes. This is regardless of Medallion or other elite level status.
Why is Delta Air Lines increasing these fees — and with little or no advance notice? Because they can…
