A new Economy Comfort package — featuring a minimum of four inches of extra legroom, comfortable headrests, higher-quality headphones and personal amenity kits — will appear on aircraft operated on long-haul flights operated by Finnair, according to this official press release.
It remains to be seen how this new class of service will affect elite status level members of the Finnair Plus frequent flier loyalty program; but if it emulates many other frequent flier loyalty programs, chances are that upgrades from the economy class cabin to the business class cabin will likely be eliminated except for those passengers who purchased full-fare tickets.
An additional complimentary mid-flight snack on day-time flights, a new wine selection and complimentary sparkling wine are all part of the updated meal service available to all passengers in the economy class cabin.
Speaking of food, Finnair will introduce Sky Bistro to economy class passengers aboard airplanes operating on short-haul flights — including nearly all flights in Europe. Sky Bistro will offer “a wider mix-and-match selection of seasonal, high-quality foods and beverages combining the best tastes of Europe and Asia. Meals can be tailored in advance at Finnair.com or bought onboard during the flight.”
Although Sky Bistro will replace the complimentary cold snack service which had been offered on some flights within Europe lasting longer than two hours, coffee, tea and blueberry juice remain complimentary on all flights in all classes of service.
In Business Class — where meals remain inclusive in the ticket price — a new amenity kit with high-quality brand products will soon be included.
The in-flight entertainment system is supposedly being redesigned with “a fresher, more intuitive look and feel and a greater selection of movies, TV shows, newspapers, magazines and books” in all classes of service throughout the entire aircraft.
An official press release from Finnair announced last October the eventual opening of an exclusive premium lounge with a unisex Finnish sauna — where the towels are supposedly optional — at Helsinki Airport; and that it will open “soon.”
