Hilton Price Match Guarantee Requires Reservations Booked First

...and the process must begin within 24 hours of booking the reservation.

The Price Match Guarantee with Hilton requires that reservations at a hotel or resort property that is part of the Hilton portfolio of brands are booked first before starting the process within 24 hours of booking the reservation.

According to the official Internet web site of the Price Match Guarantee of Hilton:

If you find a lower qualifying rate on another site for the same accommodations after booking directly with Hilton, we’ll match the lower rate and give you an additional 25% off the room rate for your stay.

Also known as the Best Rate Guarantee, the Price Match Guarantee has existed for years — but the success rate has decreased over the years due to a plethora of restrictions: “Price match claims are only made if it’s the same accommodations and terms. This means the same room type, view, and location, with the same amenities and booking conditions and same cancellation terms for the same number of guests and the same stay dates.”

Note that the guarantee and its restrictions is typical of many lodging companies and not only Hilton.

Frankly, I almost never try invoke a Price Match Guarantee or a Best Rate Guarantee with any lodging company. The last time I tried to do so was years ago and generally was not worth my time researching lower rates elsewhere. Although successfully invoking these guarantees is possible — and can potentially be lucrative — I find that they are virtually useless in general, as attempting to invoke one is like comparing apples to oranges…

…or like comparing what seems like the same products from the same companies in different stores, as all it takes to nullify a price match is a different digit on the Universal Product Code on the packaging.

Then again, a company does not profit from constantly giving away a product or service at a lower rate; so restrictions do need to be added.

Also important to note is that if you have earned elite status — such as Hilton Honors Diamond Reserve status — you generally do not qualify to enjoy the benefits that come with elite status if you book your reservations anywhere else other than directly through Hilton; and this is typically the policy of many multinational lodging companies because they want more control and more profit over the reservation booking process…

…so a multinational lodging company is going to do everything it can to protect its revenue stream — and that includes imposing restrictions on a Price Match Guarantee…
