If the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada are in your travel plans over the next couple of days or so, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the latest winter weather system which is forecast to bring significant amounts of snow to these regions.
Travel Alert January 2023: Winter Storm Affecting Northeastern United States and Southeastern Canada
The following statement is currently posted at the official Internet web site of the National Weather Service of the United States:
Winter Weather for the Northeast; Another Storm Brewing for the Central U.S.
A winter storm will continue to produce heavy snow and freezing rain across parts of the Northeast through Friday. This will create slick and hazardous travel with accumulating snow and ice. Another storm will develop over the Rockies and track eastward Friday into this weekend. Snow is possible north of the track from the southern High Plains toward the Northeast with heavy rain for the South.
The map of the United States from the National Weather Service indicates that winter storm warnings, winter weather advisories, winter storm watches, and dense fog advisories have been issued in eastern Nevada, southwestern Idaho, southwestern Utah, northern Arizona, parts of northern New Mexico, southeastern Colorado, western Nebraska, extreme western Oklahoma, eastern New York, northern Connecticut, all of Vermont and New Hampshire, most of Massachusetts, eastern Rhode Island, and southern Maine.
Although snow is expected to fall from extreme northeastern Illinois all the way to Newfoundland and Labrador, the accumulation of up to 24 inches of snow is possible from northern Vermont to central New Brunswick.
Meanwhile, much of the southeastern United States could receive thunderstorms and affect travel accordingly.
Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations
If you are traveling to, from, or within the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada over the next couple of days or so, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this winter weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.
