What Is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 202

This is a sign of things to come.

For this edition of this popular game, can you guess what you believe is wrong — or, at least, seemingly quite bizarre — with this photograph part 202?

I was hungry one morning at the time to eat breakfast at a Fairfield Inn hotel property earlier this year — and as I was about to walk into the area where a complimentary buffet breakfast was served, I noticed two metal signs which were affixed to the wall.

  1. Not only is “compilmentary” speeled wrong but the Braille is really screwy. It is wrong and does not translate correctly.

    1. How do you know the braille is not correct?
Per USA ADA guidelines, braille is supposed be grade 2. Grade 2 braille has what I will call abbreviations for common words and letter combinations. So it is not always 1 letter to 1 braille symbol. For example: with, and, th & ing all have a single braille symbol.

  2. Hmmm…when I enter “complimentary breakfast” in an online text-to-Braille translator, the result is exactly as shown (with “complimentary” spelled correctly!). However, “everyday” is an adjective meaning “ordinary” or “typical”. “Every day” should be used here.

    1. Braille is correct because of this:

Per USA ADA guidelines, braille is supposed be grade 2. Grade 2 braille has what I will call abbreviations for common words and letter combinations. So it is not always 1 letter to 1 braille symbol. For example: with, and, th & ing all have a single braille symbol.

  3. My first thoughts…
    1. Misspelled Complimentary.
    2. Every Day should be two words, otherwise it means it’s a “common” or “ordinary”breakfast. (Which is likely true nevertheless )
    3. Braille only used for part of sign.
    4. Put Breakfast Area in top spot as most common directional inquiry. Follow with left arrow items, then right arrow items last.
    5. “Guest” isn’t necessary.
    6. Inconsistent capitalization.

    1. I contend that the word guest is necessary as the hotel probably has a laundry facility for staff to wash linen. It is possible that a guest would want to visit the staff laundry facility, perhaps they would like to investigate which fantastic soap products they use to get the sheets so clean….
