If you will be traveling to or from John F. Kennedy International Airport and plan to visit or leave New York, you are in luck: AirTrain is half price in New York for Summer 2024 through Monday, September 2, 2024 due to ongoing construction and renovation of the airport.
AirTrain is Half Price in New York Summer 2024
The news was officially announced by Kathy Hochul, who is the current governor of the state of New York. “The $4.25 AirTrain JFK fare applies at both the Jamaica and Howard Beach stations, the two off-airport stations that require payment via OMNY or MetroCard. Jamaica is just 20 minutes from Grand Central Madison, Penn Station, or Atlantic Terminal via Long Island Rail Road, and easily accessible from Long Island. Easy subway connections are also available at the Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Howard Beach subway stations via the A/E/J/Z lines.”
Industry analysts forecast that the airport will likely experience “record-setting air passenger volumes this summer” that would result in approximately 700,000 more passengers than last summer.
“Starting July 1, 2024, AirTrain single ride fare will be reduced to $4.25 through Labor Day. The already discounted 10-trip ($26.50) and 30-day unlimited ($42.50) tickets will not change but remain a competitive option for frequent AirTrain users”, according to this notice at the official Internet web site of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. “As JFK is experiencing peak summer travel volumes with our $19 billion transformation into a world-class gateway, JFK encourages passengers to utilize the AirTrain and take advantage of this 50% summer discount.”
AirTrain normally costs $8.50 per one-way trip. The fare increased from $7.75 to $8.00 back in January of 2022. The fare increased again from $8.00 to $8.25 on Sunday, March 5, 2023. The fare increased yet again to $8.50 on Sunday, March 3, 2024.

Having that discount would have been nice when I had to navigate through the renovations at the airport while I was there two years ago to be at the TWA Hotel for the first time…
