City Express by Marriott is brand number 31 for Marriott and serves what is called the “affordable midscale segment”; and it will actually contain four sub-brands at which you will be able to book reservations through Marriott later this summer:

  • City Centro by Marriott
  • City Express Suites by Marriott
  • City Express Plus by Marriott
  • City Express Junior by Marriott

The announcement of the acquisition of Hoteles City Express by Marriott International, Incorporated for $100 million was released back in October of 2022. Regulatory approval of the acquisition of Hoteles City Express from the Federal Economic Competition Commission of México was received in March of 2023.

The acquisition was completed in May of 2023; and with 17,356 rooms in 152 hotel properties across 75 cities in Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Costa Rica, Marriott International, Incorporated is now the largest lodging company in the Caribbean and Latin America markets, as the transaction has increased its presence in the region by approximately 45 percent to greater than 480 hotel and resort properties across 37 countries.

Membership Program Update

Members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program will initially earn points and Elite Night Credits for stays; but the ability to book reservations for award stays at the seven properties will occur once a baseline has been established to ensure accurate redemption pricing.

Members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program will earn five points per one United States dollar at City Express by Marriott hotel properties and one Elite Night Credit per two nights, on a per stay basis.

The migration of the City Premios Rewards membership program to the Marriott Bonvoy membership program has begun. You can transfer your points by logging in with your account at citypremios.com.mx. Then, click the “Transfer Points” button and follow the instructions provided. All transfers must be completed by Saturday, September 30, 2023 — after which you will no longer be able to access points in your City Premios Rewards membership account.

The last day to earn City Premios Rewards points is Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

Final Boarding Call

Members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program are now starting to have even more options in the Caribbean and Latin America regions.

I suppose those sub-brands of City Express by Marriott cannot be counted as brands, as that would be like Fairfield Inn by Marriott and Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott being counted as separate brands.

Meanwhile, brand number 32 is in the works
