Free Wi-Fi to All Marriott Rewards Members Starting in 2015

F ree Wi-Fi will be available as a standard benefit at greater than 3,800 hotel properties worldwide to all 47 million members of Marriott Rewards who book reservations through the official booking channels offered by Marriott International, Incorporated as of January 15, 2015, according to this announcement which was released earlier today.

The official booking channels of Marriott International, Incorporated include the following:

  • The official Internet web site of Marriott
  • The official mobile application software of Marriott for portable electronic devices
  • 1-800-MARRIOTT
  • Through a hotel property which is part of the Marriott portfolio, which includes the following brands:
    • Marriott Hotels
    • JW Marriott
    • Renaissance
    • Gaylord Hotels
    • Autograph Collection
    • AC Hotels by Marriott
    • Marriott Executive Apartments
    • The Ritz-Carlton, which is the exclusive luxury partner of Marriott Rewards

“Marriott Rewards members asked for free Wi-Fi, and we answered,” said Stephanie Linnartz, executive vice president and chief marketing and commercial officer, Marriott International. “Free Wi-Fi is a meaningful way to reward our most loyal customers and continue to attract next-gen travelers.”

The following brands of Marriott International, Incorporated which already provide free Wi-Fi include:

  • EDITION
  • Moxy
  • Courtyard
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites
  • SpringHill Suites
  • Residence Inn
  • TownePlace Suites
  • Marriott Vacation Club

Platinum and Gold Elite level status members of the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program will continue to enjoy an exclusive benefit — free enhanced Wi-Fi — where available. This premium-tier service allows for downloading large files faster and streaming media such as movies. Other members of the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program may upgrade to enhanced Wi-Fi for a fee.

This new benefit is not available at select hotel properties which do not participate in the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program. Other exclusions may apply. Click here for complete details.

This is great news, in my opinion, where the only possible downside I see could be too many guests using the free Wi-Fi at once, which could slow down access speeds.

I have a story which I intend to share in a future trip report at a certain hotel property which is part of Marriott International, Incorporated concerning free Wi-Fi — as well as other items…
