Hyatt and MGM Resorts To End Reciprocal Relationship

What does this mean for you?

News was revealed of Hyatt and MGM Resorts to end reciprocal relationship between the World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards membership programs effective as of Saturday, September 30, 2023 slightly greater than a decade after the partnership was officially formed.

The following message appeared in the section of frequently asked questions at the official Internet web site of MGM Resorts earlier today, Tuesday, July 11, 2023:

After careful consideration, MGM Resorts and World of Hyatt have decided to end their strategic relationship effective September 30, 2023.

All existing reservations at MGM Resorts destinations in Las Vegas booked through the official channels of Hyatt prior to Saturday, September 30, 2023 will be honored.  Eligible stays with checkout dates prior to or on Saturday, September 30, 2023 can earn World of Hyatt points and World of Hyatt Tier-Qualifying Night credits. However, for stays with checkouts after Saturday, September 30, 2023, members of the World of Hyatt program will no longer be eligible to earn World of Hyatt points or World of Hyatt Tier Qualifying Nights.

Members of the World of Hyatt program who tier matched into MGM Rewards between Wednesday, February 1, 2023 and Friday, July 14, 2023, will receive their tier match status through Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Member of the MGM Rewards Gold program who achieved their Tier Status through the tier match benefit between Wednesday, February 1, 2023 and Friday, July 14, 2023 will have their resort fees waived for direct bookings made through MGM Resorts through Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Members of what was then called the Hyatt Gold Passport frequent guest loyalty program were able to earn and redeem points at twelve resort properties located on the Las Vegas Strip which participated in what was then called the M life frequent guest loyalty program of MGM Resorts International became effective as of Thursday, June 20, 2013 — and all eligible nights and stays at these resorts counted toward Hyatt Gold Passport elite tier status.

I believe I used the benefits of this partnership exactly once during its ten years of existence, and that was years ago; so I will not be affected by it.

Still, to see the end of a reciprocal partnership that was beneficial to many people — through matching status and inexpensive stays — is nothing to celebrate…
