Low On No Fewer Than 5 Different Products In One Hotel Room Upon Arrival

Scoring the rare quinfecta.

When arriving at a hotel or resort property, certain expectations are automatic: that the room is reasonably clean; that the bed is comfortable enough on which to sleep for the night; and that the room is supplied with an adequate amount of products to use for basic hygiene — but upon arrival for a recent stay, the bathroom of one hotel room was literally low on no fewer than 5 different products.

As an increasing number of hotel and resort properties use bulk dispensers for amenities instead of individual bottles, tubes, and containers, one of the first things I did shortly after entering the room was to use body wash from one of those aforementioned dispensers in order to wash my hands.

Squizerpf! Pfft — squizerpf!” was what the nozzle seemed to be telling me after managing to excrete just enough body wash to wash my hands. Because I wanted to take a shower later that evening prior to going to sleep, I alerted the person at the front desk.

Shortly after that, a member of the staff at the hotel property delivered one new bulk dispenser container of body wash. He then checked the shampoo and conditioner dispensers and noticed that they were almost empty as well. He then returned to replace those bulk dispensers with new ones.

Not long after that, I noticed that the bathroom was low on both facial tissues — the blue dye gave me the indication that only a few tissues remained — and that not only was the roll almost out of toilet paper; but that another roll was nowhere to be found in the room, as is customary in many rooms at hotel and resort properties.

Featured in the photograph at the top of this article is that lone rogue roll of toilet paper.

No tissues or toilet paper were used — or harmed in any way, for that matter — prior to noticing that they were almost gone.

Once again, I politely informed the person at the front desk of the additional deficits; and they were quickly replenished.

The room was now fully stocked with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, facial tissues, and toilet paper.

Final Boarding Call

In all of my travels over the years, I have never walked into a room at a hotel or resort property to have as many as five items low in supply. One item low, sure — such as having issues with too few tissues, which has already occurred multiple times this year; and two items, definitely possible. I can understand mistakes or oversights, as nobody is perfect…

…but I cannot imagine how members of the housekeeping staff could possibly not have noticed the dearth of supplies in the room to be low on no fewer than 5 different products — ultimately scoring the rare quinfecta — and then expect a tip or gratuity afterwards for the reduction in service.

This is likely one of at least 13 ways how hotel services have devalued — some stealthily.

At least the room itself seemed clean, so…
