Hurricane Franklin to Affect Bermuda: August 2023 Travel Alert

This is currently a Category 4 hurricane.

Due to the effects from Hurricane Franklin to affect Bermuda August 2023, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — if Bermuda is in your travel plans over the next few days.

Hurricane Franklin to Affect Bermuda: August 2023 Travel Alert

Maximum sustained winds of Hurricane Franklin — which is currently approximately 345 miles west southwest of Bermuda and moving north northeast at a speed of 12 miles per hour — are at 130 miles per hour, which means that it is currently a Category 4 hurricane with a well defined eye; and although no landfall will occur as Hurricane Franklin starts to speed up its forward motion while it simultaneously weakens, Bermuda will experience at least tropical storm conditions.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

  • Bermuda

Dangerous rough surf, strong rip currents, windy conditions, and significant precipitation are all possible for Bermuda. Rough surf and strong rip currents are already affecting the east coast of the United States and will continue to do so through tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

After passing well to the northwest of Bermuda tomorrow, Hurricane Franklin is expected to steadily weaken over the next several days as it takes a path toward Iceland.

When this hurricane was a minimal tropical storm, its only landfall was on the south coast of the Dominican Republic.

Flight Waivers, Delays, and Cancellations

If you are traveling to or from Bermuda over the next few days, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this tropical weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.

If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary. If you are driving in any of these areas, watch out for deteriorating weather conditions and traffic problems.

  • American Airlines has issued a travel alert for Bermuda for Tuesday, August 29, 2023 through Thursday, August 31, 2023; and Monday, September 4, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • United Airlines has issued a travel alert for Bermuda for Tuesday, August 29, 2023 through Thursday, August 31, 2023; and Monday, September 4, 2023 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • Air Canada has issued a travel alert for Bermuda for Tuesday, August 29, 2023 through Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
