Marriott to Replace Hyatt With MGM Resorts Reciprocal Partnership

Introducing the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy. For the long term.

Marriott to replace Hyatt with MGM Resorts reciprocal partnership effective as of October of 2023 means that 17 resort properties representing greater than than 40,000 rooms in Las Vegas and other cities across the United States will become what will be known as the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy in an exclusive long-term strategic licensing agreement.

Members of Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott’s award-winning loyalty platform with over 180 million members globally, will be able to earn and redeem points for stays at all MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy properties.”

On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, news was revealed of Hyatt Hotels Corporation and MGM Resorts International to end their reciprocal relationship between the World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards membership programs effective as of Saturday, September 30, 2023 slightly greater than a decade after the partnership was officially formed.

Final Boarding Call

The reason why the partnership between Hyatt Hotels Corporation and MGM Resorts International will cease is now known with this major announcement.

The Excalibur Hotel & Casino had been an easy and inexpensive way for members of the World of Hyatt membership program to earn elite status. I highly doubt that will be similar for members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program — although I would not be surprised if at least a few of the elements of this new partnership could potentially be superior than those of the former partnership.

No word has been given about elite status matches or whether any members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program will not have to pay mandatory resort fees at the aforementioned resort properties. As nice as that would be, I doubt that will happen.

We will eventually find out when specific news is available about the exact rates to earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points through the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy — as well as the benefits that members who have earned elite status will enjoy…

…but what this means for you is that you will get to earn and enjoy your Marriott Bonvoy elite status and benefits in more places in Las Vegas than ever before…

  1. Not the best change for me. I barley stay at MGM so my Marriott TE status will not help me with MGM. As a military member MGM treats military well giving Pearl Military status which I always apprracheate and used to bump up my Hyatt up to Discoverist.

In my opinion as a Hyatt Discoverist (1st tier) I get way more recognition and upgrades checking into a Hyatt then any Marriott property at a TE. Every Hyatt I check into always acknowledge the small Discoverist status but as a Marriott TE maybe 15% of my stays the front desk will even acknowledge the status and offer me a snack & water (worthless), never an upgrade, I even get the confused look and some laughs if I dare to ask if any upgrade available despite show available on the app.

    1. Some people argue that elite status with Hyatt is generally more difficult to obtain than that with Marriott, Mike — so of course they are happy with this news.

I am somewhat indifferent, though, because I only go to Las Vegas occasionally on business. I have no desire to be there on a leisure visit.

I am curious as to how your Pearl Military status will translate to Marriott Bonvoy — if it does…
