Tropical Storm Lala Affecting Hawaii: August 2026 Travel Alert

A landfall of this tropical storm in Hawaii is not expected to occur.

Due to the effects of Tropical Storm Lala affecting Hawaii August 2026, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — if this region is in your travel plans over the next few days.

Tropical Storm Lala Affecting Hawaii: August 2026 Travel Alert

Maximum sustained winds of Tropical Storm Lala — which is currently approximately 140 miles east southeast of South Point in Hawaii and moving west northwest at a speed of 13 miles per hour — are at 65 miles per hour, which means that it is currently a strong tropical storm. The good news is that no landfall of this tropical storm is likely given its current path; but it is expected to briefly strengthen to hurricane status as it passes south of the Hawaiian Islands — which means that portions of the Hawaiian Islands can experience hurricane conditions.

The outermost bands of this tropical storm are already currently affecting portions of Hawaii; and conditions will continue to worsen as the tropical storm passes closer to Hawaii.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for:

  • Hawaii County

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

  • Maui County — including the islands of Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and Kahoolawe
  • Oahu
  • Kauai County — including the islands of Kauai and Niihau

Significant precipitation of up to as much as 25 inches is possible in across portions of the Big Island of Hawaii — especially windward and southeast facing slopes of the island — which can potentially result in flash flooding. A storm surge of up to three feet is possible.

Rough surf and strong rip currents are currently affecting parts of the Hawaiian Islands — as well as windy conditions.

Flight Waivers, Delays, and Cancellations

If you are traveling to or from Hawaii, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this tropical weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.
