I found out that the walk from the airport to the Las Vegas Strip is currently interrupted due to construction as I was recording a video while walking yesterday, Monday, April 20, 2026.
Video: Walk From Airport to Las Vegas Strip Interrupted Due to Construction
This is the video that was recorded yesterday — and I did not find out about the construction until I was well into the walk.
The good news is that the walk can still be done via a detour — but although it was similarly easy to do, it was not as intuitive as you might think.
This is what I did:
- As per the directions of the orange Detour sign that was not visible in the video because it was knocked over under the temporary metal fence, I turned left on Kitty Hawk Way.
- When I reached Rent A Car Road, I turned right.
- I walked northbound on the sidewalk that was on the right side of the gateway, which I passed.
- I walked on Rent A Car Road passed the parking lots on each side until I reached the gateway on the north side just before Gus Giuffre Drive, which was under construction and the reason why the aforementioned walkway was closed.
- I crossed Gus Giuffre Drive — which had no traffic due to the construction — and continued northbound.
- I turned slightly right and then slightly left between two nondescript buildings that were one story tall.
- After going between the aforementioned two buildings, I turned right onto East Bell Drive for the very short walk to Paradise Road, where I turned left to continue my walk.
At the time that this article was written, I could not find any information on when this construction project will be completed or when the walkway along the west side of Paradise Road will reopen — but the detour sufficed and did not take much longer than the original route.
The good news is that I do not recall seeing emergency towers to call for assistance along the route; so I suspect they were installed fairly recently. They are seen in the aforementioned video and apparently help to increase safety along the route.
I asked someone at an information desk in Terminal 1 at the airport if the walkway was still open. “It is”, she said, “but I have not heard of anyone who did that walk successfully.”
I smiled as I responded to the woman that I have completed that walk multiple times. She was not expecting that response.
Final Boarding Call

Information pertaining to the walk from the airport to the Las Vegas Strip is detailed with a map, photographs, and directions in this article here at The Gate With Brian Cohen.
Although other transportation options are available, please refer to this article if you would rather use a taxi cab to get to your destination in Las Vegas or in the unincorporated town of Paradise, which includes many of the hotels and casinos on The Strip — as well as University of Las Vegas and the international airport itself.
