The Hilton Sandton hotel property on the edge of Sandton — which opened back on Saturday, November 1, 1997 by Charles III of England when he was still a prince — will no longer be a part of the Hilton portfolio effective as of Monday, July 1, 2024, which leaves only three other hotel properties in all of South Africa that are still part of the Hilton portfolio: Hilton Durban, Hilton Garden Inn Umhlanga Arch, and DoubleTree by Hilton Cape Town – Upper Eastside.
Hilton Sandton to Leave Hilton. Review. Photographs.
I last stayed at the Hilton Sandton hotel property exactly nine years ago today on Saturday, March 7, 2015. I remember the bed being comfortable — and the robe was nice, too. Two pairs of slippers were in the night stand at the side of the bed.
The room was filled with earth tones and wood finishes. I do not recall on which floor in the hotel property that the room was located.
The closet contained an ironing board, an iron, a plastic laundry bag, and five wooden hangers; while the smaller cabinet contained a miniature refrigerator.
Above the aforementioned smaller cabinet was a coffee pot, an ice bucket with metal tongs, two coffee mugs, a spoon rest, two glass bottles of water, and an assortment of coffee, tea and condiments.
A small flat screen television rested atop of a credenza. To the left of the credenza was a luggage rack. On the wall was African art depicting two giraffes on three separate panels, of which a closer view is provided on the right.
To the right of the credenza was a dest with a chair on rolling wheels; and a large oval mirror hung on the wall. To the right of the desk — on the other side of the window — was a chair with a floor lamp behind it; and a matching foot rest and a small table.
The Bathroom
A large mirror hung over the vanity, on which a box of facial tissues and assorted amenities rested.
In addition to two wash cloths, the amenities included a bar of soap, shampoo, conditioner, skin lotion, mouthwash, and a deluxe shower cap — all branded as Peter Thomas Roth.
A shower with a glass door and a toilet — with a telephone hanging beside it — rounded out the bathroom…
…as well as a bath tub and a decent amount of assorted sizes of towels.
The View
The view from the room was not all that exciting; but it was interesting.
Sandton is a financial, commercial, and residential area that is located in the northern part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in South Africa.
Although they were not photographed for this article, Hilton Sandton offers a fitness center, a swimming pool, a business center, and meeting rooms — as well as a restaurant, a sushi bar, a pool gazebo bar, and a bar and lounge which offers snacks and salads.
I am not sure what was the building that was part of my view; but I also had a view of the driveway of the main entrance to the hotel property.
The Executive Lounge
The Executive Lounge of the Hilton Sandton hotel property was well stocked with food at breakfast; snacks throughout the day; and assorted beverages all day long.
White linen napkins accompanied the place settings on every table in the Executive Lounge — and each area had a different assortment of food.
For example, on this one table were croissants, assorted breads and pastries, muffins, and a variety of toppings.
Another area offered assorted fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, and crackers; while assorted cereals were available in yet another area of the Executive Lounge.
The food offerings in the Executive Lounge were enough to comprise a meal — but considering the excellent steakhouses that were located nearby, I did not want to do that.
Final Boarding Call
Unfortunately — if you are a member of the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program — a yellow banner at the top of the official Internet web site of Hilton Sandton includes the following message:
Hotel Leaving the Hilton Brand
Please note that as of midnight July 01, 2024, the hotel will cease to operate as a Hilton hotel. As a result, stays booked past this date will not accrue Honors points. Please contact hotels@cavaleros.co.za for questions about future bookings.
I do not recall the total room rate for my stay at this hotel property; but I remember that I enjoyed my stay and would have stayed at this hotel property again if I returned to Johannesburg. I highly recommend staying at Hilton Sandton. Its location was great; the room was clean and comfortable; the Executive Lounge was excellent; and the members of the staff treated me well.
If you want to stay at this hotel property before it is no longer affiliated with Hilton, you will need to do so within the next three months.
