Stealth Devaluation? Marriott Bonvoy Escapes Promotion Discount Quietly Reduced

The discount has been reduced from 25 percent to 20 percent.

At one time, every Wednesday — with basically the exception of Week of Wonders — you were able to save up to 25 percent on room rates at hundreds of hotel and resort properties at select destinations in different regions around the world with Marriott Bonvoy through its Escapes promotion, which offered exclusive savings every Wednesday through Sunday which are typically valid for stays at hotel and resort properties over the following four weekends and for stays at resort properties all the days of the week…

…but the promotion quietly started to appear every two weeks instead of every week effective as of Wednesday, November 3, 2021; and the savings now start on Thursdays instead of on Wednesdays — which means that the discount is offered on four days instead of five days.

Even worse is that the discount has been reduced from 25 percent to 20 percent effective as of tomorrow, Wednesday, March 30, 2022. The offer consisted of a discount of:

  • 25 percent on the guest room standard rate for members of the Marriott Bonvoy frequent guest loyalty program
  • 20 percent on the guest room standard rate for all other guests

Availability is typically extremely limited and the promotion is only good while supplies last. Rates are prepaid at the time of reservation. Reservations which were booked prior to Wednesday, December 30, 2020 — regardless of arrival date — may be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours prior to arrival. Changes to a reservation are subject to availability and any rate differences. Advance booking of at least 24 hours prior to stay required and must be prepaid with a credit card. Refunds for prepaid reservations may take up to 90 days from the date of cancellation to be processed. The form and timing of refund may be subject to applicable laws where each hotel is located. Marriott Vacations Worldwide — for example, Marriott, Sheraton and Westin Vacation Ownership resorts — is included in this policy for transient reservations only.

Other terms and conditions — including those of the Marriott Bonvoy frequent guest loyalty program — apply.

If you are not already a member of the Marriott Bonvoy frequent guest loyalty program, you can join as a member now at no charge.

Final Boarding Call

Marriott Bonvoy Escapes has usually been a good sale of which to take advantage…

…but it is now only available every two weeks instead of every week — which is apparently permanent and not a temporary change — and that is likely the case with the reduced discount.

This promotion will still be featured at The Gate — but it is becoming less and less appealing…
