At first glance, The Catch in Longview in Texas gave the impression of being some cheap seafood restaurant — but it was located within walking distance of the hotel property at which I stayed for the total eclipse of the sun in southeastern Oklahoma the next day; so quick and convenient was the plan before venturing out the next morning in anticipation of substantial traffic.
The Catch in Longview in Texas. Restaurant Review.
Although the building was small, seating was available inside the restaurant for anyone who wanted to dine in. A drive-through window was also available. I decided to pick up my food and take it back to the hotel room.
Customers walk up to the counter to place their orders. Members of the staff were friendly and provided good service. The only complaint I had was the option to tip on their device when paying for the food.
Above the counter is the menu. After I took a photograph of the overhead menu, a member of the staff cheerfully gave me a paper menu.
The Crawfish Étouffée was very flavorful. White rice was at the bottom.
The Jumbo Shrimp Basket included eight large plump shrimp that were cooked perfectly and covered with a light crispy fried batter. Hush puppies and a side dish were included in the price. The hush puppies were quite good and flavorful. $13.99
Instead of French fries which come with the Jumbo Shrimp Basket, I ordered white rice, which had a nice mild flavor and were not bland or dry.
The Large Crawfish Basket included a lot of tender fried crawfish tails that were cooked perfectly and covered with a light crispy fried batter. Hush puppies and a side dish were included in the price. Corn & Potatoes were supposed to be substituted instead of the French fries; but the fried potatoes were included anyway. This error led to extra food at no additional cost. The corn was not too soft. $13.99
Final Boarding Call
Longview may not be known for its seafood; but I highly recommend dining at The Catch for a quick bite to eat. The food ranged from very good to excellent; members of the staff were friendly; the service was attentive; and customers get significant value for their money. The catch with The Catch is that this location is in Texas with another location in Tyler and nowhere near where I am based — otherwise, I would not only be a repeat customer; but I would also try out some of the other items on the menu. The establishment is conveniently located near a number of hotel properties near the interchange of United States Highway 259 with Texas State Highway 281.
