Travel Alert December 2022: Winter Storm to Impact Northeastern United States

Snow, rain, ice — you name it.

If the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada are in your travel plans over the next few of days or so, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the latest major winter weather system which is forecast to bring significant amounts of snow to parts of the region.

Travel Alert December 2022: Winter Storm to Impact Northeastern United States

Although up to 24 inches — that is two feet — of snow is expected to fall in portions of the states of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, snow is forecast through Saturday, December 17, 2022 from northeastern West Virginia and southeastern Manitoba all the way to New Brunswick and northwestern Nova Scotia.

Snow is not the only issue with this winter storm: ice is expected to blanket the region from extreme southeastern New York state and extreme eastern Ohio to eastern Pennsylvania and southwestern North Carolina, with the most significant accumulation of ice expected to occur from western Virginia to south central Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, rain and thunderstorms are forecast from Boston along the east coast of the United States all the way to Florida. Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion may occur as a result.

Additionally, strong winds are possible and will likely cause blizzard conditions in some of the aforementioned areas, where high temperatures are expected to be limited to the upper 20s to low 30s Fahrenheit. Bitterly cold Arctic air will descend on the northern plains states with temperatures as low as 30 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.

Electrical power outages are predicted in many areas that will be affected by this major winter storm.

Expect flights to be delayed or canceled as a result of this winter weather event.
