So, which way are we going? When driving, the information of which direction one wants to go needs to be absolutely clear within a few seconds at most to quickly inform the motorist and mitigate any potential accidents.
Which Way Are We Going? Sunday Morning Photograph.

Motorists that head south from the southern terminus of Interstate 381 as it becomes Commonwealth Avenue while approaching its intersection with Euclid Avenue in Bristol in Virginia will see the above array of highway signs that can be quite confusing — especially if you are choosing to use either United States Highway 11, United States Highway 11E, or United States Highway 11W.
Oddly enough, the numeral 1 is included in the route number on every “one” of those signs in the photograph.
Final Boarding Call
Trivia time: When the first United States Highway shield signs were first installed in 1926 — this is a one hundredth anniversary that I was not expecting when I stumbled on it while doing my research — the name of the state and the letters U.S. were included on the sign with the shape of the shield cut out. Currently, the signs only contain the route number itself on a white shield with a black background.
