Answers to Past Articles — Part 17: Signs and Dines

In past articles in which your participation was not only requested but also helpful and humorous, I did not give the answers to questions which I have posed to you; so this article is the seventeenth of a series to do just that — along with links to the aforementioned articles…

Answers to Past Articles — Part 17: Signs and Dines

…and the links are embedded in the titles of each section as well as within the sections themselves; so please click on the links in each section to take you to the original article — and this edition is entirely comprised of photographs which were contributed by readers of The Gate.

The Favorite Answer will usually be the correct answer by a reader of The Gate — along with a Favorite Comment from the same article which I found to be funny or informative.

What is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 81

Initially at first glance, I thought I read the neon sign as we deliver — but I saw the letter Y at the end of the sign and thought it read we delivery

…but actually, both of the answers below sum it all up perfectly.

Favorite answer by Cwyfan: “Perhaps they could not decide better saying either we deliver and free delivery, and this resulted.”

Favorite comment by Serene: “Is it me that only sees deiivery? Whatever that is the alien insects are about to eat it.”

Although Cwyfan technically had the answer which I originally had in mind from the sign, I had to choose from the following answers, as multiple answers were either also correct or humorous.

Favorite answer by Jim Lovejoy: “Section 54-11 Has a b and c but not a
“Hours
“Section 54-13 Passive Parks:”

Favorite comment by Michael: “It was originally designed to be a touchscreen, you could click each ordinance and get the detailed description.

“Then, budget was cut…”

a sign on a wall

I could not figure out what the symbol on the placard — which was affixed to the wall adjacent to the washroom and toilets for men inside of the store at a gasoline station — actually meant. Was the head turned on the sign so that the figure could drink through the straw out of the cup — and if so, why was the cup raised and no outline of a nose was added to the profile on his “face”?

Favorite answer by derek: “The sign is bizarre!

“Objectively, the biggest error is in the braille. It reads ‘me’, not ‘men’.

“Subjectively, why do they show men as drinking. Not only that but drinking in an impossible way by sucking on a straw while the cup is horizontal.”

Favorite comment by NB_ga: “Suicide by drink cup?”

a sign in a parking lot

Customers were forced to use the drive thru area of a fast food restaurant because the dining room was closed due to the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic — and for some reason, one lane was closed even though the sign indicates that both lanes may be used.

Favorite answer by J : “Nothing wrong with that picture at all. The drive thru is now only ONE LANE as it should be. Never liked those two lane free for all everybody finishes at the speaker at the same time and then you go, no you go, no I’M GOING. Who the F designs a drive thru with a merge like it was some kind of tollbooth?”

Favorite comment by Thomas Potter: “maybe the yellow arrow painted on the ground that is pointing straight into the wall…

“I guess that could be a metaphor for what ordering at one of those double drive thru’s is like.

“like running straight into a brick wall..”

I was on my way to taking different photographs for this article in the 10 Suggestive Names of Real Locations Worldwide series; and when I viewed a particular scene nearby, I wondered what responses you would post in the Comments section below — so I stopped to take a photograph and posted it here to find out.

By the way — as this location was on the periphery of the downtown area of a city — I found the No Hunting prohibition on the sign to be slightly specious at best.

Favorite answer by derek: “The photograph looks reasonably in place but since the answers are sparse, I will try to answer.

“The sign indicates no parking but it’s clearly a parking lot with cars. The sign doesn’t say “authorized parking only”. The sign is also makeshift and might be considered dumping.”

Favorite comment by Cwyfan: “You were lucky it did not say no photography. Where did you park?”
