Hint: This hotel property just underwent an extensive renovation.

Can you guess which was the first hotel property to open outside of the Americas for Hilton? If you can also guess the year that this hotel property opened, you get worthless bonus points — but, unfortunately, not Hilton Honors points.

The hotel property in question is the reimagined Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus in Türkiye, which underwent an extensive renovation that cost greater than $90 million dollars and marks a significant milestone for one of the most iconic hotel properties in İstanbul.

The official unveiling of the renovated hotel property occurred on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

As Hilton’s first hotel to open outside of the Americas, the property has played a foundational role in Hilton’s international expansion since opening in 1955 as Türkiye’s first five-star hotel. Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus quickly became a landmark in Türkiye’s hospitality landscape, hosting world leaders and global icons — such as Grace Kelly and Louis Armstrong — and introducing Istanbul’s first happy hour and discotheque. It also pioneered the ritual of a “welcome coffee,” which was inspired by Turkish hospitality traditions and later adopted across Hilton properties globally.

Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus also set the stage for the global expansion of Hilton, which today stands at greater than 9,000 hotel and resort properties, with at least one hotel property per day opening its doors under a Hilton flag worldwide. The transformation of Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus further reinforces Hilton’s leadership across almost 100 countries and territories; and underscores continued investment in high-growth markets like Türkiye, where Hilton currently has 137 hotel and resort properties across eleven brands in development.

Key highlights include:

  • Reimagined Design: The transformation spans all 475 guest rooms and suites, the lobby, restaurants, pool area, health club, and event and social spaces. The result ushers in a new era while honoring its storied past, blending contemporary sophistication with Turkish cultural references and thoughtful details throughout. The iconic outdoor swimming pool is shaped in the foot of Conrad Hilton — to represent the first global step of Hilton outside of the Americas — remains a central feature of the hotel property.
  • An Elevated Culinary Portfolio: A vibrant collection of dining and social venues — including a Mediterranean-inspired all-day restaurant, terrace brasserie, jazz and cocktail bar, and Riviera-style pool club — alongside refined Turkish dining that reflects the destination.
  • Dynamic Meeting and Event Spaces: With greater than 40,000 square feet of meeting space across 17 flexible indoor and outdoor venues, the hotel property is designed to host international conferences, corporate gatherings, and social events of every scale.
  • An Iconic Setting Along the Bosphorus positions the hotel property along one of the most recognizable waterways in İstanbul, continuing its legacy as a central gathering place for both travelers and the local community.
