Pier Restaurant – Bar in Queenstown. Restaurant Review.

After driving in from Te Anau in New Zealand on the way back from Milford Sound, parking the rental car, and exploring Queenstown for a bit, I was hungry and decided to eat lunch. Pier Restaurant – Bar in Queenstown appeared to be a viable option for me — especially as customers can dine outdoors by the water at Steamer Wharf.

Customers can check in at the outdoor stand to be seated and never need to be inside — unless they need to use the toilet, of course. Note that a glass for gratuities and tips is on the outdoor stand, which is a rare sight to see at a dining establishment in New Zealand.

Dining al fresco offers views of the water, the mountains in the distance, and the surrounding town of Queenstown.

In fact, no one chose to dine in the seating area indoors because the weather was almost ideal. A full service bar is stocked with alcoholic beverages on which guests can choose to imbibe — including beer on tap and wine.

A bottle of water was brought to the table shortly after being seated.

The Fish and Chips comprised of beer battered blue cod, thick cut chips, tartare sauce, and a wedge of lemon. A side salad was substituted for the chips. The batter was nicely golden brown in color; and the fish itself was a thick portion. $42.50 in New Zealand dollars

The fish sandwich also had beer battered blue cod and tartare sauce; but with lettuce on a bun. Thick cut chips were served with it. The fish was flaky yet moist; the batter was crunchy and flavorful; and the chips were good. Unfortunately, some of the lettuce had seen better days.

Final Boarding Call

I recommend dining at Pier Restaurant – Bar in Queenstown for a quick bite to eat — or to simply relax and enjoy the views. The food was good; the service was decent; and customers get reasonable value for their money. The total cost of the meal that was highlighted in this article was $48.32 in United States dollars.
