In an effort to address the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus — which is also known as COVID-19 or 2019-nCoV — pandemic, the Transportation Security Administration has relaxed the rules pertaining to liquid hand sanitizer, as passengers are now permitted to carry containers of up to a maximum of 12 ounces of liquid hand sanitizer through airport security checkpoints…
Up to 12 Ounces of Hand Sanitizer is Permitted Through Airport Security Checkpoints
…but keep in mind that if the volume of the container which contains liquid hand sanitizer is larger than the standard allowance of 3.4 ounces of liquids which are normally permitted through an airport security checkpoint, you will need to have it screened separately, according to this article which is posted at the official Internet web site of the Transportation Security Administration — and that will likely add more time to your experience being screened at the airport security checkpoint.
All other products which are classified or considered to be liquids, gels and aerosols continue to be permitted through the airport security checkpoint at the maximum limit of 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters and carried in a bag no larger than one quart in size.
Summary
Please remember that using liquid hand sanitizer is not as effective at warding off germs and viruses as properly and thoroughly washing your hands.
As with the current hysteria pertaining to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, I still believe that many of the policies which were implemented after the attacks which occurred in the United States on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 are a gross overreaction which accomplished little to nothing in improving the safety for people in general — and I still believe that the limitations on liquids and gels should be rescinded.
After all, think about it: why is transporting up to 12 ounces of liquid hand sanitizer suddenly safe now but not safe only two weeks ago?
