Travel Alert December 2022: Latest Winter Weather Advisories From Airlines

Relief is on its way.

Much of the United States is still reeling from the wallop of winter weather since winter officially began with a vengeance on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, as at least 63 people have died and greater than 13,000 flights have been canceled — with thousands more flights delayed — and a minimum of 200 airports in at least 45 states of the United States and eight provinces in Canada which had been affected or impacted as a result…

…but as temperatures are gradually warming up this week, some airlines still have some residual travel advisories; while other airlines have added new travel advisories.

Winter weather is currently occurring in the western United States and will be heading eastbound — but it will not be anywhere nearly as impactful as what had been occurring this past week, which ruined the holiday season for many thousands of people, as this storm is forecast to bring more rain than frozen precipitation.

At least four feet of snow has accumulated in parts of Buffalo, which prompted some airlines to issue a special travel advisory for that city.

Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations

If you are traveling to, from, or within much of the United States and Canada over the next few days or so, continue to expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to these winter weather systems which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.

If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary.
