If you travel frequently, you have likely experienced activities which you have had to sign a disclaimer which basically prevents the proprietor from any and all liability should you be injured or killed during your participation — such as skydiving, water skiing, or scuba diving…

Would a Pandemic Disclaimer Have Been Useful For Travel?

…so during a discussion I had with a person pertaining to the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic, this was what was said:

“Just like with sporting events and activities, people should have the right to decide whether they want to undertake the risk and liability of contracting the 2019 Novel Coronavirus by signing a disclaimer or waiver absolving the proprietor of all responsibility.”

Considering that jurisdictions around the world started reopening in stages despite the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic not subsiding, would the idea of signing disclaimers and waivers have been effective — especially if the person signing one also agreed to such precautionary measures as keeping a safe distance from others as part of the disclaimer or waiver?

Summary

I am curious as to hear what are your thoughts pertaining to the aforementioned statement: would a pandemic disclaimer have been useful for travel — or, for that matter, any other industry — instead of simply shutting down much of the world economy

…perhaps every three years?

At the time this article was written, at least 423,349 people — or slightly greater than 5.60 percent — have died of the minimum of 7,553,182 confirmed cases worldwide, according to this situation dashboard from the World Health Organization pertaining to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus.
