Answers to Past Articles — Part 22: Stop Avis Biscuits From Smokehouse Miles!

Umm...what was that again?!?

In past articles in which your participation was not only requested but also helpful and humorous, I did not give the answers to questions which I have posed to you; so this article is the twenty-second of a series to do just that — along with links to the aforementioned articles…

Answers to Past Articles — Part 22: Stop Avis Biscuits From Smokehouse Miles!

…and the links are embedded in the titles of each section as well as within the sections themselves; so please click on the links in each section to take you to the original article — and this edition is entirely comprised of photographs which were contributed by readers of The Gate.

The Favorite Answer will usually be the correct answer by a reader of The Gate — along with a Favorite Comment from the same article which I found to be funny or informative.

The upside-down Stop sign in a parking lot caught my eye as I was driving down a main road not far from where I am based — but that did not stop several readers from commenting on this photograph.

Favorite answer by derek: “There’s a lot wrong with the photo but the biggest one is the top screw of the stop sign is no longer attached so the sign swung up side down.”

Favorite comment by Bill G: “ןןɐ ʇɐ buıɥʇou”

Since when is Wyoming a country? Well, that is how Avis defined the least-populous state in the United States — but of course, readers of The Gate found many other inaccuracies and wrong things with what has since been corrected by Avis.

Did someone from Avis read the original article here at The Gate?

Choosing the favorite comment proved to be incredibly difficult for this photograph.

Favorite answer by Matthew: “Some do say Wyoming is another country…”

Favorite comment by Paul Fidler: “The Republic of Upper Volta, was renamed in 1984 and is now Burkina Faso.”

After a long day of hard work, Matthew Cohen did not feel like cooking anything or eating out; so he decided to pick up some fast food and found this sign. For $2399, those eleven pieces of chicken, two side dishes, and biscuits better be large!

Favorite answer by derek: “Whoever did this is either barely literate or just sloppy. What is IIPC? Ok, it’s 11 pieces. Even if they didn’t have enough letters, put a space so it’s 11 PC.

“Then there’s the 2 large sides. People are way too fat if they’re going eat 5 or 6 pieces of chicken (chiken at one location recently featured in The Gate) and 2 people sharing the side dishes. But then there’s only 1 biscuit. So one person eats 11 pieces of chicken? What is this, a July 4th Nathan Coney Island Dog eating contest?

“The $ and 3 are both upside down. At it should be $23.99, not $2399. Is this place in inflation ravaged Argentina?”

Favorite comment by Cwyfan: “In your attention to detail, are you sure that one or more of the 9’s aren’t upside down too?”

Matthew Cohen wondered how could the 1883 Smokehouse be established in 2017? That prompted him to take the photograph.

Favorite answer by derek: “A bizzare thing about the photo is that the restaurant is emphasizing conflicting messages. 1883 Smokehouse seems to imply that the restaurant was established in 1883 but that conflicts with the tag on the bottom stating that the restaurant was established in 2017.

“Part of the problem maybe us, the viewer. 1883 doesn’t have to be the year. For example, the Covid vaccination website of Taiwan is 1922.gov.tw/vac but that has nothing to do with the year 1922.”

Favorite comment by Rich: “@derek: 1922 is the toll-free number of the Taiwan Center for Disease Control, so it makes some sense.”

Of the two signs which mark 17 miles from the county line on this particular state highway, which one is the most accurate sign?

Favorite answer by EricF: “Yes about the identical mile markers spaced apart. Also, strange that the address markers would increase by 10 between the first two driveways (2650 to 2660) then by 12 between the next driveways (2660 to 2672). And also, that’s a strange place along that road curve to have the center line dashed- it does not look like a safe passing zone.”

Favorite comment by Jim F.: “Also, it sure looks like there’s a road sign facing the opposite direction of the “East 120 Mile 17” sign at the entrance to the Bridgegate community”
